NONPROFITS: DESIGNING FOR SOCIAL CHANGE

Non Profits 5

As communities change and evolve, gentrification becomes a challenge and we have found that committing our resources in the service of public interest is an effective method for balancing historically under-served neighborhoods. We work closely with non-profits in order to translate their mission and identify and solve their practical problems through design. We create spaces that encourage interaction and that allow members to act and participate, empowering diverse communities.

Diversity is seen as the primary generator of urban vitality because it increases interactions among multiple urban components. A ‘closed grained’ diversity of uses provides constant mutual support and planning must become the science and art of catalyzing and nourishing these close-grained working relationships -Jane Jacobs

Our multidisciplinary team is committed to place making and in the process we create spaces that serve and maintain our communities. We believe that architectural resources can become catalysts for public discourse and non-profit organizations become essential elements of this transformation because they are the expression of who their community is and what they believe in. As a firm, we believe that social and economic diversity is a critical aspect of healthy communities, enabling their residents to preserve their culture through the test of time.

Kronberg Wall’s collaboration with non-profits is rooted in the core belief that design can be used to create positive social, environmental and economic change. Our work with nonprofits through the years is an expression of who we are and what we value as a firm. We are actively measuring our projects based on their social impact and we constantly use this measurement to continually inform and direct our design process and practice.
